Taiping Zoo & Seafood @ Bukit Tambun!

I was casually telling PiggyBeng on Friday that after living in Penang for almost 6 years, I’ve not been to Bukit Tambun for seafood. Guess what was his reaction? He said ‘lets go to the zoo and have seafood at Bukit Tambun tomorrow!’ Wow! That was quick! πŸ˜† I thought he was just joking so I did not take him seriously.

After breakfast yesterday morning, he said we should get prepared so we can go to the zoo early. I was like…. eerrr… sure we are going??? And plik-plak after an hour later we were in the car all ready to go. The plan was to go to Taiping Zoo and then Bukit Tambun. This was my 2nd time to Taiping Zoo. The first time was a day after my wedding when we were on our way back to Penang… what a weird post wedding activity! πŸ˜†

We arrived around 11.30am and it was extremely hot then. The parking next to the zoo’s entrance was full so we have no choice but to park on the opposite car park next to the playground. We were in the zoo around noon and the first thing we did was queue for the free tram ride…

*Must hold on to daddy tight-tight!*

The ride was around 20 minutes (2.5km) and we got down at the elephant’s enclosure where we had some food which we brought along before we went on foot to explore the zoo.

Why the weather so hot?

The playground is fun!

Once we were done (yes, we went to the entire zoo on foot!), Darrius requested to have another round of tram ride though I would love to leave since the sky was turning gray with rain clouds.

Another go on the tram!

We waited for almost 10 minutes for the tram to arrive and once we hopped on it started to rain… very heavily some more!!!! The tram’s ceiling was leaking so we were drenched!!! What luck!!

When it got back to the main station, we have to get down and there was no umbrellas so we have to run to the shelter. All our shoes were wet! I was cursing as the dirt stuck on our feet! Aarrrggghh! How I wish we wore boots instead of our normal walking shoes!

It was still drizzling when PiggyBeng went to get the car. We were off to Bukit Tambun after that. Then along the way we bought some guavas… We just discovered that Taiping has lots of guava plantations!

The rain stopped when we arrived in Bukit Tambun and we went to this seafood restaurant at the end… can’t remember the name… Gee Seng or something which was next to this Jetty Restaurant. Lousy choice as the food and service was worst than mediocre. The crabs were not fresh and they don’t have a variety of seafood items to choose from. Have wanted to try some shells dishes but they don’t have any except balitong.

Was still very hungry after we finished so PiggyBeng went to order some satay which were quite tasty…

D0n’t think we will return again as the food was not up to our expectation… nothing special, crabs so small and there were a lot of flies!!!! Another thing was, the parking…. aiyo, the residents were fighting for cars to park on their plots of parking lot so they could collect RM2 from each car!

Your gal is cute with the bandana. You should go to prawn village, all their seafood is fresh from the aquarium. Not all the restaurant there are good.

    • Angeleyes says:

Michelle – Guess we won’t be returning any time soon!!!! I think on the island has better and cheaper seafood… even KL has better and more value for money seafood! Fresher some more!

  2. The makan place sounded sucks. Do u think the Zoo is worth for a visit if i would drive from KL?

    • Angeleyes says:

Stephanie – eerr… if you just drive all the way up here to the zoo is a bit not worth the long drive (almost 4 hours from KL). Unless you come to Penang and pop by on the way back to KL… then still ok.

  3. chanelwong says:

    your girl is sooo cute….
I havent been to that place even though a lot ppl mention about it..thanks for sharing…

    • Angeleyes says:

Hey Chanel! Thanks for popping by. According to many people, Taiping Zoo is better than the National Zoo… so maybe if you guys are driving up north can pop by the zoo!

  4. Lay Yoong says:

Next time should visit Kuala Sepetang for their seafood, which is about 10-20 KM from Kamunting.

    • Angeleyes says:

Lay Yoong – Oh… never thought of that coz I seldom hear about Kuala Sepetang. Maybe next round on our way back from KL we shall pop by… Thanks for the idea!

  5. 2ma says:

btw i love your new blog template!

    • Angeleyes says:

Jasmine – that was what everyone was saying but it has been ages since my last trip to Zoo Nrgara so I can’t really comment! πŸ˜›
