Melbourne 2010 – Part 3

Continued from here. Another long post with lots of photos squeezed in!

Initially I have wanted PiggyBeng to bring us to Philip Island which is located on the southern of other side from where we are staying. The drive is about 2.5 hours away so that Darrius can get to visit Amazing Things. However, PiggyBeng has a different idea thinking that this period is the beginning of autumn, we should be seeing the beautiful autumn’s colors near the highlands instead!

So, is that a good choice? Well, one of my favorite seasons is autumn and seeing all these beautiful maple leaves turning to different colors is one of a life time chance since we don’t go to such places all the time! The only thing is this place is about 4 hours away from Melbourne!

The place PiggyBeng had chosen to go is along the Great Alpine Road which is near Mt. Hotham (further than Mt. Buller). Mt Hotham is the 2nd highest peak in Australia, if my info is correct! The name of this beautiful and quiet town – Bright is famous among skiers during the skiing seasons.

Bright has this Autumn Festival going on the day we arrived Melbourne but on the day we arrived it was actually the last day already. It was a small town with a lot of nut farms leading to it. We saw a lot of walnuts and chestnuts farms on the way.

So, what so special about this little town? Pictures speak a thousand words…

This place has many motels since it is a tourist place. Almost every corners you can find motels and some even have more or less the same name! We went to one which has almost the same name as the one we booked. While waiting, Darrius can’t resist getting down and play with all the dried maple leafs!

The one we booked was just a little further away…. Bright Avenue Motor Inn.

And here is the room we spent the night…

It is another fully self-contained motel with everything provided. This room has 1 queen and 1 single bed but it also has a sofa bed which can sleep another 2 persons! All the houses or motels around this place are mostly made of wood so you can’t really find anyΒ metal buildings around as it can get really cold during winter!

Later, we ventured to the nearby park (Centanary Park) which is located near the town itself. There are many restaurants and shops nearby. It was such a beautiful day so instead of having our lunch in the motel or in the restaurant, we decided to have a picnic!

After parking or car, Darrius saw this…

Playground!

So, he ran and ran and ignored our screams to tell him to stop! Kids!!!!

PiggyBeng, Baby G and myself walked slowly snapping some nice photos along the river bank while chasing after Darrius…

Then we found a nice spot for our picnic…

We packed up around 2-ish as we wanted to explore the town a little before it gets dark around 5pm. Went to the church and snapped some photos before we drove off to before Porepunkah where there is a farm that grows berries and nuts. Too bad the season is off so there was nothing to see so we drove back to Bright.

Then we went to the town again for some groceries shopping at Woolworth. It started to drizzle so we decided to head back to the motel and rest before preparing dinner. We had instant noodles with lots of sausages and hams! hahaha They never tasted better! πŸ˜€

And before we called it a night, there was some cam-whoring session with Baby G…

.

All the beds except the sofa bed have electric blankets so we felt warm and cozy the whole night. For the first time, Darrius slept all by himself on the single bed at the far end. Both Baby G and myselfslept on the queen bed and PiggyBeng sacrificed by sleeping on the sofa bed which was not so comfortable. πŸ˜›

Next day, after our breakfast, we packed up and check-out around 10am. PiggyBeng wanted to have a peek at Mt Hotham which is pretty nearby.

The road up was very winding resulting in Darrius giving way by throwing up first. It was a very long drive… almost an hour to get to the peak and the snow field is not even ready since it is not winter yet! We did not go down as it has started to drizzle when we reached so PiggyBeng just snapped a few photos as remembrance… don’t know when we’ll be up here again??!!!

.

.

Then we have to drive another hour down back to Bright! It was a torturing 2 hours since the road was so windy… On the way down, PiggyBeng gave way too and has to stopped the car to puke! Poor thing! 😐

When we arrived in Bright again I wanted another photo before we bid goodbye…

When we arrived in Melbourne it was already 5-ish. We can’t decide where to have dinner so we had pizza again at the nearby pizzaria near my friend’s place! Best pizza so far!

On the next day (Friday) we decided to stay in Melbourne and not embarking on any more adventures as all of us were so tired after all the long drives! We were craving for the hot and soupy Pho so PiggyBeng decided to drive to Spring Vale again… after which we went to the biggest shopping mall in Melbourne – Chadstone.

Chadstone has K-Mart, Target, David Jones and Myers as their anchor tenants. Besides that, there is a Woolworth supermarket too. The place is quite big but it has only 2 levels so it is about 1U’sΒ  size if you want to compare with.

Did not take any photo except this…

.

Took the photo in the parents’ room! Went to change Baby G and realized she pooed but she did not even make any noise earlier! Luckily I decided to change her thinking her diaper was kinda full… How I wish the parents’ rooms in Malaysia is that nice!!!!

We wanted to avoid the city’s traffic congestion so we left after just spending about 2 hours in Chadstone asΒ  PiggyBeng wanted to go to St Kilda. It took us almost 45 minutes to reach as traffic has already built up by then. Maybe it was Friday so many work shorter hours?

.

.

When we arrived St Kilda, it was about 4pm. It has turned a little chilly since we are by the sea. It looked a little gloomy too and was about to rain… So, we quickly go around taking some photos…

Saw the Spirit of Tasmania berthing at the dock. This big ferry can take in cars so you can drive your car to Tasmania!

Love the jetty…

Saw a couple taking their wedding photos by the beach… black umbrellas? Hmm…

And the antique wedding car…

.

We left around 5pm as we really need to beat the traffic but still we were caught when we wanted to cross the bridge to the other end! Wasted almost 45minutes getting stuck! And since we do not know what to eat again, we ended up in Hungry Jack as it has a children playland there! πŸ˜€
