The worst jab!

Yesterday was Darrius’s Ah Mah’s birthday, so we (MIL, Darrius and myself) brought her out for lunch. I will blog about this later…

After our lunch, I brought Darrius to the clinic to get his 18-month jab. While waiting for our turn, I have wanted Darrius to play with some of the toys available there but there was this kid around 2 years old, who was with his parents and grandmother was playing with the slide. When Darrius got near, guess what that kid did? He actually pushed Darrius away and said ‘tah..tah…tah’ means hit in Mandarin. He was so possessive that he kicked all the other kids who have wanted to play with the slide and what make me really mad was his parents did not do much! They just let that kid has his way! The mother was like a beauty queen parading in her highest heels and low cut singlet and flug her hair here and there…. damn irritating! Then her MIL or mother was holding a small baby which I believed was not more than 2 months old sitting there and just smile when her grandchild was bullying other kids… aaarrrggghhh! The entire time that stupid beauty queen never even hold her baby! Cilaka! Don’t know what kind of mother is that! Sorry… a bit off topic… but can’t help it that I must rant about it!

After waiting for some 30-40 minutues, it was our turn finally. During the consultation, I was told that after the jab, Darrius might experience swelling on his tigh and will have difficulty walking as well as developing fever. I did not think much about the swell… just worried about the fever.

Then we went home and I fed Darrius the paracetamol and his milk before sending him to have his nap… that boy prolly took half of the med and half he spit out! Can’t do much and was lucky he went off to lalaland after just 10 minutes…

He woke up around 6pm so I let him play for a while… and showered him… Then I asked PiggyBeng to put Darrius on the high chair and I fed him his cereal as he has developed a slight fever. After his cereal I let Darrius play on the floor and half way through he screamed in pain…

‘phain…phain…’ Darrius kept repeating and the moment I lift him up he screamed again. He pointed to his leg and said ‘phain’ again so I knew right away his jab area is somewhat swollen. Suddenly he looked so weak… poor boy…

Then I wanted to put him on the floor and let him walk and he refused! He was crying till so pathetic that we have to carry him all the time till his bed time…

PiggyBeng has to lie Darrius down which was so unlike any other nights where that boy will run about in the room. The whole of last night Darrius was pratically paralyse from his waist down! He can’t even sit up on his own… he will scream the moment we move him…

I can’t sleep the entire night and can’t do much with my blogs either as he will wake up every 20-30 minutes crying. He can’t turn to his favourite sleeping postion as his leg hurts if he does… *sigh* He was having high fever through out the entire night too… which was quite stressful for me. Hope his fever will subside soon…

Till now, he still dare not sit up by himself! He just lie on the same spot where I last left him! Poor boy really… can’t even do what he loves most…. walking!

There goes our plan for this weekend…. playing sand on the beach! :(

Sounds serious. What vacine was that?

The dpt/dt… I also dono what was that! :|

  2. poor boy! get well soon! sori 2 hear abt the push – i guess some ppl take pride in their toddler’s bullying ways :( … dont they kno that it only shows their lack of education

I think that couple only care about themselves and I think that beauty queen just want to flunt to people that after giving birth can still have a beautiful body after confinement. Her baby was having the worst case of rashes on the fae and I don’t see her giving much thoughts to the baby!

Oh dear me…hope darrius recovers soon, what combination of vaccine he took? I opt for 6in1 and I am hesitating to go for the final jab suppose to be at 15mth as Matt kept falling sick and I am procastinating to bring him for his final jab due to the fever and soreness at the injection area i.e. the tigh area as well….hmm…hope to catch up with you next wk…u take lots of care ya…

    hey friend!
I have no idea what jab was that… dpt/dt or something like that…
Yeah, better not send Matt to get the jabs if he’s not feeling too well.
Hope to catch up with you next week too.

OMG why so painful wan????? Now i sked to bring Jayden for this jab also. Hope that the phain phain will go away soon!

Yalor… the swell was too much for the lil fella to bear and I think he has low pain threshold too.

  5. Yep, it happened to Ryan too. I got so terrified because he could not walk and just sat on his bed and played his toys. When he tried to walk, his legs will tremble. Scared the hell out of me. We went back to the paed and was told that this mostly happened to boys only.
When Mei Mei had the same jab, she had no prob. But the paed also told us these days that same jab is not so bad as back when Ryan was 18 months. So, don’t worry, Darrius will recover but I know it’s heart pain to see.

    Oh! is that so????
According to the paed, it was due to the way the jab was administered… poke not deep enough which is why it caused the swelling.

Oh dear…is that the JE jab? Why does it make the leg swollen?

    eerr… what is JE???

  7. WS says:

yes, the administer of jap by an experience makes a lot of different…when Ern was admitted (dengi), even on the simple IV drip, PD insisted to do it herself as she said if let the nurse to do it, sure ‘blue black”…

Yalor… sometimes I am worried too if the jabs were given by some inexperience nurses.

  8. huisia says:

JE is the Japanese encephalitis, malaysia kids don’t seem like need this jab.
Jo had this jab as transferring to China, this jab is must!

Thanks Huisia for the info! I’ve no idea what it was as I’ve never heard of this JE before.
