That’s it! I was sweet 18 back in 1991. Simple America and Binky wanted to see what were the types of music I was into back then….
That year I finally got my independence… yeap… I was going to college and since the campus was like almost 2 hours journey from my home, dad has let me stay on my own for the very 1st time! Lots of changes, lots of new experiences and met lots of people… my college mates as well as my housemates.
I was in a art college, so some of the people I met (classmates or housemates) are kinda weird but mostly they are a fun lot! In my 1st semester, I was living with a few people coming from a few different states but most of them are of Chinese education background so the types of music the played are mostly Chinese genre but I did managed to learn a few songs from them. Things changed when I moved in with a whole bunch of Penangites! See, I was destined to live with Penangites!
We were a crazy bunch of 6 to say the least. 4 of them were my seniors and are guys and I share a room with a girl. In fact one of them is in my link list here! He’s a professional photographer and a diver too! So, if you need to have some professional photo shoots – on land of deep in the sea, let me know!
I was still quite ‘raw’ or ‘green’ at that time and was still very much infatuated with songs by NKOTB (New Kids on the Block) and Tommy Page. I was not into music that time or even now but I guess I switched on the radio more during those days as compared to now. With the new housemates, I’ve tried to sneak into discos and was exposed to more music of different genres too. Our big brother, Norman (also the eldest among my housemates) played the most music. He has most of the popular songs/albums collections. Next was Andrew. He also used to spend lots of his $$$ buying cassettes or CDs… we normally do our assignments in the wee hours of the nights so music is part of our companion.
NOTE: This is also a MEME!
First let us look at all the rules:
- Go to PopCulture site.
- Pick the year you turn 18 years old. You’ll see the years on the left sidebar.
- Get yourself nostalgic over the songs from that year.
- Write something about how those songs affected you.
- Pass it on to five more friends.
In my list are….
- Unforgettable – Nat and Natalie Cole
- (Everything I Do) I Do It For You – Bryan Adams
- More Than Words – Extreme
- Black Or White – Michael Jackson
- It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over – Lenny Kravitz
- When A Man Loves A Woman – Michael Bolton
- Wind Of Change – Scorpions
- Baby Baby – Amy Grant
- I’ll Be There – Escape Club
- Joyride – Roxette
- Love Is A Wonderful Thing – Michael Bolton
- Set The Night To Music – Roberta Flack and Maxi Preist
- Sadeness, Part 1 – Enigma
- Every Heartbeat – Amy Grant
- I Wanna Sex You Up – Color Me Badd
- The Motown Song – Rod Stewart
- Miracle – Whitney Houston
- Losing My Religion – R.E.M.
- Where Does My Heart Beat Now – Celine Dion
- Shiny Happy People – R.E.M.
- The First Time – Surface
- All the Man That I Need – Whitney Houston
- You’re in Love – Wilson Phillips
- Rush, Rush – Paula Abdul
Though I’m not a fan of Micheal Jackson, but I guess his MTV is one of the best during that period. Especially the Black & White MTV. There are still some advertisements who are using that concept today!
I can’t remember particularly which song(s) has impacted me the most as it was just too long ago but I can remember some of them were being played almost everywhere, everyday! Among all, I like most of the sentimental songs more than the rest. And you will never guess I actually love songs in the 60s more than any of thes pop songs!!!! I have an oldies heart! LOL Care to join me on Green-green Grass of Home?
So, what are your kind(s) of music????
Well, for the 2nd time, I’m not tagging anyone for this… bleh~

Now i know how old are you…
1991? Hrmm..where am I? Oh, i just receive the key!
WOW, Wow, wow! Angeleyes, I didn’t know you were a fan of Tommy Page! I was so crazy over him that I practically had every photos and pictures of him on my school folder, pencil case and even my watch! Yes, I cut out small pictures of TP and pasted it on my watch so I could look at him all the time! I remember during a session of Physical Exercise lesson where we need to bat a baseball, I kept missing the ball until my teammates had to encourage me by chanting “Tommy Page, Tommy Page, Tommy Page!”. And I finally hit the ball! Haaa! See what a fanatic I am, and I was MADLY in love with him, man!!!! He looked a bit like a modern Elvis Presley, didn’t he? Especially the lips…… :-p

My gawd! I tot I was one of those odd ones! But I will make you envy as well coz I met him in person! My classmate’s uncle ‘David Lim’ is one of the DJ in the radio station and we got some free passes to meet Tommy Page when he was here to promote his album ‘Paintings in my mind’.I possed with him but too bad I did not have a camera with me then so the photos was in my friend’s camera. And I can’t remember where I kept it now!
Anna,
