Bite-bite by the fever bugs

I was just talking to my friend, moolet, the day before about her little boy who was having some viral fever and did not expect my little cheeky boy to be biten too!

It was just another ordinary Thursday night and while I was preparing Darrius to sleep, I felt his little body was warmer than normal. Told PiggyBeng about my concern that Darrius might have a slight fever. Shortly after I brought him up to our room, I decided to give him some Paracetamol to suppress his fever. However, before I could finish feeding him (he was crying hysterically and wriggling away) he threw everything out including his supper (cereal) like an open tap! :( Then we have to clean him up and decided to wait and see if his temperature will go back to normal but did not give him another dose of Paracetamol. Instead I stick a Kool-fever on his little forehead and hope the fever will subside eventually…. too bad it did not!

At about 5am, Darrius’s temperature seemed to have gone higher (did not have time to use the thermometer instead using hand feel). Quickly, we went downstairs and gave him another dose of Paracetamol. Again, he was screaming like crazy! Luckily this round we managed to feed him the entire dose by using a syringe. Then we went back to sleep… but I can’t really sleep… was rather worried.

Darrius woke up around 9.15am but he was rather active although his body was still a little warm but not as warm as earlier. He climbed down from the bed and reached for his toys and was playing when PiggyBeng called to find out how Darrius was doing. Told PiggyBeng that Darrius still has fever and PiggyBeng decided to come back early to bring Darrius to the clinic.

Our doctor gave Darrius a dose of dono-what-is-the name pil which he inserted into his anus so his fever will subside quicker than taking any oral medication. True enough, Darrius’s fever was gone after about 2 hours. As he has runny nose as well, the doctor also prescribed some medication for that and our nightmare begin with Darrius kept throwing out after we tried feeding him…. :(

Then I came up with an idea… to feed him the medicine in between his spoons of cereal! This strategy works well as I also gave him some books to distract him and he did not noticed that I have spooned him the medicine as he thought it was his cereal and he actually opened his mouth big-big! :P It was too late when he actually realised that he has swallowed the liquid! Since then it has been a breeze feeding him his medicine and his fever finally subsided this afternoon.

Though he was sick, he was as active as ever and still bugged us to bring him out! It was hell of a havoc weekend for us (Darrius was more cranky and whinny than usual) and we must thank God that Darrius is fine now… and I can go back to blogging…. :P

The suppository method of administering paracetamol really works wonders! I used it the before and give it 2 thumbs up!
However, the method of feeding medicine in between cereal/soup does not work for me… My boy will reject it if it does not pass his inspection :p
Glad to know Darrius is his usual cheeky self again… Take care.

    sss1979,
Sean so smart… but I distract Darrius so he was not looking at what I was spooning him so it was real easy!

    nyonya,
thanks thanks for coming by… Darrius is fine now.

    Giddy Tiger,
I distract Darrius with lots of toys and books and kept talking to him so he has no chance to inspect what I was feeding him!

  12. moolet says:

hey hey hey…glad to know that darrius is fine now, the fever viral bugs really toxic boi! we mommies are the ones with panda eyes and kept waking up @nite to feel their baby’s head coz that’s where temp always surge…:( the suppository works like magic but can be used only 12 hourly intervals oni wor…

  13. Hey, I like the way you feed medicine to Prince Darrius.. :P

  14. Poor Darrius but that’s a clever trick feeding him the medication with cereal. Glad to hear he is recovering. Miss his cheeky smile :)

  15. mumsgather says:

I sneak the medicine into their ribena but must make the ribena sweet sweet to musk the taste. Glad to hear Darius is getting better. Its really tiring when the little ones are sick, physically and mentally from worrying!

  16. sigh…. my little one spat it out if i do that. even if i add it to whatever, she still spat it out. i have to resort to violence (force feed) and while my heart felt PINCHED to have to do so, my friend, Arthur, who was visiting with his wife, was SHOCKED !!!!!

  17. Hope all is well. Such a pain when the young uns are illing.

  18. Angeleyes says:

    moolet,
we tried not to give the suppository too as it’s quite strong unless his temperature is really very high.

    Etc Mummy,
yeah…so much easier than have to push it down his throat!

    IMM,
He still has his runny nose and the mucus damn disgusting leh.

    mumsgather,
yeah boi! was totally vexed out! The problem is, Darrius don’t really like Ribena that much so also tough to get him drink.

    mom2One,
My mom was telling me to use that method but I just don’t get it down to his throat!

    SA,
You bet! Luckily the ordeal is just a short period if not I think I can go chi-sin.

  19. That is every mother’s nightmare. Thank goodness Darrius is well now. Ethan was down with fever also. Sigh.
