DIY-Singapore Curry

Last month, my friend from Singapore came for a leisure weekend. She knew I misses some of Singapore’s delicacies and bought me some of the DIY packs. She bought a few different flavours for me and I tried cooking the Singapore Curry last weekend as the expiry date on the box is almost due so have to cook and eat ASAP.

My friend did told me that the Katong Laksa tasted like the real mccoy but too bad they were sold out! Will bug PiggyBeng to get for me when he goes on his next biz trip. :P

Now, back to the Singapore Curry. I was quite surprise that it did not taste that bad apart from it was too diluted (I have to add water following the directions given on the box) and a wee bit too oily. I used all breast meat which I cut from the chicken wings I bought for the Buffalo Wings we were experimenting. I should have used a whole chicken instead to have different meat texture but… what the heck!

The pack came with 3 sachets of ingredients: a curry paste, coconut milk mix and an extra hot chili powder. Only need to add in the chicken meat, potatoes and water as reommended and in less than 30 minutes… Viola!

So, I will recommend to those of you who are living in some far away land out of Asia and not keen to get dirty but yet still want to have some decent Asian meal, this is a good alternative… The only problem is, can only get this in Singapore….. :P

    Hey.. Angeleyes,
Primataste is easy to use.. and yes.. very authentic taste too. I have tried laksa, mee siam.. chicken rice… courtesy of fellow bloggers from both the states.. and Malaysia.. and of course Fantasy Flier from Calgary. As much as i love it.. i am left at the mercy of friends..and bloggers from other parts of the world to send it to me.. coz’ i can’t find it here.. in my “ulu” town.

Yea, we have it here too..but choices are quite limited.

what is the different between singapore curry and malaysian style curry chicken? for me, i usually bring back a few sachets when i visit malaysia, but that will last me forever because i always forget to use it, because very rarely will cook curry. but the one ur friend gave u is good cos it comes with the coconut milk mix. so is all ready, just need to buy and add chicken, potatoes.

  4. Yummy stuff.

We had some of that on Sunday. I likes it. :)

Prima Taste is available at most Asian Stores here too but the rack gets emptied pretty quickly :D Hv not tried any Prima Taste product yet (must try its curry someday)… waiting to use up my Msian curry packs first – this brand http://www.a1-bestone.com … kicks!

    Mama Bok,
I have yet to find them here in Penang. Maybe have to look harder. The curry is good to go with Maggie noodles instead of rice.

    Vien,
It’s good when you have sudden craving and it can be cooked in a jiffy.

    whoisbaby,
I also dono what are the difference! I just cook it since it’s sitting there. Oh the coconut mix was actually in powder form so it’s quite unique.

    SA,
I’m sure you will! Did you add in the entire packet of extra hot chili powder? I added them and still not as spicy as I like it to be.

    G,
I think the Katong Laksa one is a must try compared to this one. You can ask Mama Bok… I have never use any DIY pack before when I’m in M’sia or S’pore but tried once when I was in Perth. I still prefer the ‘real’ rempah mix..:P
